Basic Health and Safety Workshops

The Center for Jewish Education is pleased to offer the MSDE-required Basic Health and Safety training. In order to be in compliance with the regulations set forth by the Federal Child Care Development Block Grant all individuals working in child care must complete this course by December 31, 2017.

The Basic Health and Safety Training is a state-developed curriculum addressing Maryland Child Care Licensing requirements. It includes establishing and maintaining safe, healthy environments; teaching children safe practices to prevent/reduce injuries; recordkeeping and policy considerations; identification and reporting of abuse, neglect and injurious treatment; sanitation practices/procedures; and appropriate supervision of all children and youth at all times.

Topic: 5 hours Health, Safety, and Nutrition
Dates: Sundays, September 10, October 29 and December 3
Time: 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Fee: Free of charge for early childhood educators working in schools that receive support from the CJE. If you work at another school and would like to attend, please contact us for the fee. Must pre-register. Class size is limited to 20.

Wednesday Evening Early Childhood Workshops

Register now for Fall and Winter 2017 early childhood workshops hosted at the Center for Jewish Education, in partnership with the Baltimore City Child Care Resource Center (BCCCRC). Early childhood educators will learn, connect and collaborate with their colleagues in these engaging workshops. All workshops are MSDE-approved. Registration is through BCCCRC's website (http://training.bcccrc.org/CVSFListView.aspx).

An Introduction to the ASQ-3 and the ASQ Online
In this workshop discussion will center on the features of ASQ and the ASQ Online, including administration, scoring, and referral and communicating results with families. Participants will identify the differences between different types of assessment and screening tools, including the benefits and limitations of each. Participants will discuss cultural considerations in the administration of the questionnaires, as well as in communicating results with families.

Preschool STEM
In this workshop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) theory and activities will be shared. Come and learn new techniques to engage children in creative thinking and problem solving which leads to school success.

Dramatic Play and Young Children
Children learn about their world through participation and imagination. Explore strategies to promote and nurture dramatic play and creativity as a way to support children as they develop higher level thinking skills.

Basic Health and Safety
This class satisfies the new MSDE training requirement. In order to be in compliance with the regulations set forth by the Federal Child Care Development Block Grant, all individuals working in child care must complete this course by December 31, 2017. The Basic Health and Safety Training will cover ten specific topic areas as identified by the CCDBG regulations.

Fit from the Start
In this workshop information on the epidemic of childhood obesity will be discussed in context of providing sound nutrition and plenty of exercise as a means of combating this disease.

Developmentally Appropriate Art
Learn how to make art a developmentally appropriate and integral part of the day. Explore visual arts, how to implement a variety of art experiences for children of all ages, your role in facilitating art activities and engaging children in conversation.
