Transitional Courses for Adults with Learning Differences

CCBC Special Populations, The Center for Jewish Education, Jewish Community Services, Menucha Inc. and Shemesh have partnered to offer classes in life skills and how to live independently designed specifically for individuals with disabilities.

COURSE SELECTION 2012-13

  •  Communication and Interpersonal Skills in the Adult World of Independent Living | Tuition $275
    Mondays and Wednesdays 7-9pm
    Topics include workplace communication, verbal and nonverbal language cues, appropriate workplace appearance and problem solving. 
  •  Skills & Concepts for Independent Living in the Adult World | Tuition $250
    Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-9pm
    Topics include calculation of sales/income tax, functional reading skills to help with form completion, household budgeting and consumer math using addition/subtraction/multiplication/division; computer and internet use for personal purchasing, housing search and other tasks associated with daily living.
  • Personal Finance | Tuition $250
    Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30-6:30pm
    Topics range from managing money to budgeting and banking.
  •  Everyday Technology | Tuition $250
    Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30- 6:30pm
    Gain an overall view of how to use email, word processing, text messaging, smart phones and social networking.
  •  Language Arts (reading & writing comprehension)TBA  Tuition: $500
    Learn more about reading strategies in order to gain an understanding of written material. Topics cover comprehension of diverse forms of print material, identification of character, setting, and plot in literature and of main idea and supporting details
  •  Language Arts II (writing)TBA  Tuition: $500
    Topics cover compound and complex sentences, dependent and independent clauses, fragmented sentences, punctuation, identification of topic sentences and comprehension of material read.

Classes will be held at The Park Heights Jewish Community Center.
