CJE-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

Adult education is the newest of CJE’s areas of expertise. In one of its first initiatives, CJE focused on making the many local adult Jewish learning options more widely known. To that end, we established a community-wide Web site, JewishLearningConnection.org. Last year, we ran the Power of an Hour campaign, which was launched by a very successful Jewish Speed Learning event. To build on these successes, CJE is now turning its attention to local congregations to help strengthen their adult Jewish learning programs from within.

This year, in-depth work with Har Sinai and Adat Chaim Congregations is helping their leadership build skills in the relatively new and burgeoning field of adult Jewish learning. CJE is offering training on many aspects of this field, including tips for understanding the adult learner, the role of the adult education committee, marketing and strategic planning. Upon successful completion of our work together, CJE will award each synagogue $1000 to be used toward implementing any of the strategies we recommend.

This project is supported by a grant from the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Fund for the Enrichment of Jewish Education.

Yeshivat Rambam, a CJE-affiliated day school, was honored this fall by the U.S. Department of Education as a 2005 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School. The award recognizes the school’s ranking in the top 10 percent on nationally normed test scores. Rambam is one of only fifty private schools nationwide of the 295 recipients.

“We are very proud to be the only private school in the state of Maryland to receive this honor,” noted Dr. Rita Shloush, head of school. “It is especially meaningful since we are a dual-curriculum school only in our fifteenth year of existence. This is a reflection of our outstanding faculty, the hard work of our students and the commitment of everyone involved at Yeshivat Rambam.” CJE commends Yeshivat Rambam for its dedication to educational excellence exemplified by this award. Goldsmith Early Child Education Center (GECEC), a CJE-affiliated early childhood education program, was selected as one of 13 pilot sites in the new Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative (JECEI) launched this past fall.

“We are excited to be one of the first participants in JECEI,” said GECEC Director Michelle Gold. “The Jewish preschool experience is a vital building block for a positive Jewish identify and long-term commitment for children and parents alike.” CJE applauds GECEC for being a model of educational excellence.
