YOM lYUN

It’s So Much Work to be Your Friend – this is the title of Rick Lavoie’s latest book. All of us can relate to having friends who weren’t so easy to deal with at times. In the classroom, these difficulties are magnified as a teacher endeavors to build a cohesive group out of a somewhat random gathering of personalities, each with their own abilities, needs and achievements.

Rick Lavoie is a nationally renowned educator who specializes in the education of the non-conventional learner. His 30 plus years of experience working at residential schools has provided him with a "living laboratory" in which he developed and refined his methods and philosophies related to the education of adolescents with special needs. CJE’s efforts to support the Jewish education of all our children have made Mr. Lavoie the number-one choice for this year’s Yom Iyun keynote, scheduled for Sunday, January 8, 2006. Well-known for his instructional videos, How Difficult Can This Be?, The F.A.T. City Workshop and Last One Picked, First One Picked On, Mr. Lavoie will be speaking on motivating the reluctant learner. He will follow his Yom Iyun Presentation with a session about social skills for Yad b’Yad.

Teachers from all areas of Jewish education will convene for this event. If you are interested in attending this program, please contact Monica Gwon at 410-735-5014 or mgwon@cjebaltimore.org.
