TEACHING THE TEACHERS

The overarching theme for this year’s professional development programs promotes the social and emotional well-being and competence of children. There are numerous pressures on our students today resulting from an array of circumstances. These pressures can erode children’s sense of well-being, self-confidence and self-competence. This year’s professional development programs will give teachers unique, out-of-the-box ideas to use in their classrooms to promote the social and emotional development of their students.

Mr. Rick Lavoie will be the keynote speaker at Yom Iyun, our annual teachers’ conference. A dynamic speaker with extensive knowledge in this area, Mr. Lavoie will speak on Motivating the Reluctant Learner.

Other workshops during the year include such varied topics as: Assessment Strategies, Easy-to-Create Learning Centers, Rod Puppets as a Means of Self-Expression, Strategies for the Over-stressed, Over-scheduled Teacher, and Signs of Abuse and Neglect, to name but a few. Check our calendar section for the list of programs for fall 2005. Workshops for 2006 will be listed in our next newsletter.
